Basic Figure Modeling Methods
Keep it simple. Work from the general to the specific: From the big to the small. |
- Begin in the pelvic area (hips) using a simple box with 1x1x1 segmentation. Apply the EditPoly modifier and the symmetry modifier.
- Using the “Extrude Polygon” function, block out the basic volumes first: torso, legs, arms, neck and head. Ignore the details: facial features, hands and feet.
- Adjust the proportions (leg length, gender, etc.) of your character after you have built the basic volumes.
- Extrude the palm of the hand
- Select an “Edge” along the side of the figure and perform a “Ring” selection.
- Use the “Connect” function to turn the 4 sided volumes into a 6 sided volumes. This allows you to “round” out the forms.
- Extrude the two sides of the palm to make the geometry of the small finger and the index finger.
- Now you can extrude the 4 fingers
- Extrude the thumb from the side of the index finger.
